Being as I am a beauty blogger, with an emphasis in Nail polish (hence the name Polished Opinion) I thought I'd share my nail care process and what has people asking me if my nails are real or not! Scroll down for my 12 step process!
Let me just start off by saying that nail quality comes down to A LOT of different factors, work type, genes, bodily deficiencies, but if all your eggs are in order and you STILL have brittle nails, here are a few things I do weekly to maintain my nails all while keeping them polished weekly!
1. Clean off previous polish:
Try using nail polish remover that's acetone free or with a low level of it as it's very intense and can dry our your nails. I use acetone only for removing intense glitter (But I rather avoid it if I can)
2. Push back cuticles and clean the sides of nails for any left over polish:
I like to use my cuticle stick and gentle push back my cuticles and clean the edges for spots I might have missed. If possible do this after the shower or wet your hands first as it's a little easier to push back Damp cuticles.
3. Cut nails and reshape nails with nail filer:
Using my nail clipper I cut my nails and reshape them if needed! Using my filer to make sure everything is even and maintaining the squoval shape I like!
4. Wash hands in warm water with moisturizing hand soap:
Once I've reshaped my nails, filed them, buffed them if necessary I wash them just to get the residue off so when I'm ready to apply my base coat and polish, it's a smooth application process!
5. Thoroughly Dry hands + Moisturize with intensive hand cream:
I like to restore moisture to my hands after I wash them, especially if I've washed them twice before the polish application process!
6. Apply Sally Hansen nail strengthener as a base coat:
Ever Since I tried this I've been in love with it and it's apart of my weekly nail regimen. I think it's definitely helped strengthen my nails! Read about my four week review of this product HERE
7. Let base coat dry as you decide on polish choice and style.
8. Apply Nail Polish of your Choice
9. Apply Strengthener on top of polish:
The beauty of this product is it can be used a base coat and a top coat. That's especially great if your need to travel!
10. Then FAST drying Top Coat:
We all know I've been raving about the Sally Hansen Insta-Dri top coat! Well I use it or my PRO-FX quick dry top coat!
11. Let Nails Dry
12. Apply Pro-FX Apricot Cuticle oil:
Apply oil on your cuticles and a little on the top of your finger beneath the nail, and massage oil into skin in a downward motion on each finger for 30 seconds!
And Go! It's an easy step and as you get used to it or your own system the steps start to blur and then you'r doing your nail in 10-15 mins TOP! I hope this has been helpful!
