Survival Kit: Holiday Blues + 5 Tips to Survive a Difficult Holiday Season
I've said it over and over, that this is my ABSOLUTE favorite time of the year! So with everything going on, I have to find a way to survive this Christmas! Read on to learn my tips!
It's time to get a little personal again, so let's dive right in!
I've been trying my best to stay strong, but the last two months have been really tough. Earlier this year a bit of drama erupted my life and broke me up worse than I've ever been broken before. Shaking the world I had come to know and causing me to have to re-adjust.
To October. I've decided to once again switch around my life! That's not the scary part, the scary part is that I feel like I'm started at the bottom! It feels like I've once again, taken an off road path and am completely lost. As we approach the holiday season I am in an unhappy place and am hoping that these decisions will make 2017 better! I love Christmas time, but with everything going on I am struggling to find that Christmas spirit that usually comes in waves by December. I am spending my first Christmas morning away from my family for the first time in years...and it's not a happy decision.
At this point I am just hoping to survive the holiday season!
So how do I plan to survive!?
Here are my 5 tips to Survive a Difficult Holiday Season
1. Stick to the things that can always make you smile!
Is it your favorite Christmas movie, Music, baking/cooking. Your favorite holiday activities?! Get to it! Letting the negative energy and situation stop you from smiling is the first way to let that win! Working on smiling and laughing always brings your attitude up!
2. Just Breath
Feeling like the situation is coming to a boiling point? Those negative feelings/thoughts bubbling up again? Stop. Close your eyes and Breath. Sometimes we get wrapped up in those negative thoughts we almost forget one of the best mantras "INHALE the Best. EXHALE the Stress".
3. Count your Blessings
So I normally suggest waiting until the end of the year, but if you need it, do it ASAP. Sit down and reflect on ALL THE positive things that HAVE happened this past year! Got that job you were trying for? Celebrate it (even if you lost it, if you did it once you CAN do it again!). That concert you went to? Look at the pictures again! Also being around the people/things that remind you of your blessings are a great idea!
4. Get Around the people you love.
Now if it just so happens that some of the people you love are apart of the problem, find some others. Your chosen family ( aka friends) are always a great way to cheer you up! I know it's a busy time of the year, but if you let them know you're going through a hard time, I'm sure they'd be willing to carve out a few hours just for you!
5. Look to the Future!
If the present just ain't cutting it but you know you're working towards a better one, think about that! What you plan to enjoy, indulge in, look forward to getting it done! Sit down and visualize (daydream, whatever you want to call it) what you hope your future will look like!
Set aside some time to create a vision board even! It's something I've been doing the past 4 years and it has been very helpful! Gets me excited and keeps me hopeful!
